Impress Your Clay

Having a Ball!

A ball of twine can be used to create impressed patterns in clay.

Balls of twine can make interesting patterns when impressed into the clay.

Beth E Peterson

This lowly ball of twine has great potential as an impression tool! Note the complex patterning that occurs when the ball is rolled across the clay surface.

One thing to note: I didn't get the loose end out of the way. As you can see, that became a part of the impression, too. If you want to really make it work as an ongoing pattern, you may want to push the loose end of the twine into the middle of the ball.
