Potter's Statement: Slab building is always interesting. I had thought about creating a slab impressed with a crocheted fabric, then decided to wedge together two contrasting mid-range clays that had the same shrinkage rate. This gave me a marbled clay with interesting swirled patterns when rolled into a slab.
Cautionary Note: My former studio had water without much mineral or chemical content. Without thinking, I mixed my clear glaze using tap water. Unfortunately, the water I have now does contain a lot of calcium. Because of the calcium present, the clear glaze became cloudy and obscures the full impact of the marbled clay. Always use distilled water when mixing glazes, unless you are certain your water is pure enough.
