This coil-built pottery mug was made by Beth Peterson. Mid-range stoneware, Chun Plum and clear glazes, tan clay body with white slip used in coiling.
Photo © 2009 Beth E PetersonArtist's Statement: As I began thinking about a coil built mug, I wanted to keep the form quite basic and explore using the clay and slip of the construction as the main point of interest. I used a tan clay body, and joined the coils with white slip. After the mug was dry, I then scraped off the outer layer, revealing the pattern made during construction.
This mug is a companion piece to this coil-built pitcher.
