The Bottom Line

If you are doing fine detail work in clay, this set will be a good choice. It is reasonably priced and the tools are sturdy enough to handle the work. The set is limited, however, in both the small size of the tools and the ribbon tool heads' small range of shapes.

Pros

  • Easy to grasp and control, even with slick hands.
  • Reasonably priced.

Cons

  • Small size limits these tools usefulness to detail work or small projects.

Description

  • MRS Mini Ribbon Sculpting tool set manufactured by Kemper includes six small ribbon tools made with heat-tempered steel.
  • Each tool has a single head firmly set into a five-inch aluminum handle. Handles are a quarter inch in diameter.
  • Use for detailed work in wet and leather-hard clay, sculpting wax, plaster and other modeling media.

Guide Review - Review of Kemper's Mini Ribbon Tools

I have been pleasant surprised by these tools, having been disappointed in their "big brothers". Although small and very useful for delicate work, these tools are hardy, sturdy additions to the pottery tool box.

The aluminum handle is easy to grip, even with muddy fingers. The ribbon head is firmly attached directly into the handle and has no loose movement at all, even under heavy stress.

The set comes with three basic tool-head shapes in two sizes. Unfortunately, I am not convinced that having two sizes of each shape was the best concept for the set. I wish they had given us six different shapes, instead.
