Albany Slip

Albany slip (noun) refers to either the fine-grained, high-iron content Albany clay used to create the slip, or the slip glazes made using the Albany clay slip. The original Albany clay was an alluvial deposit from the Hudson River, near Albany, New York. It is no longer being mined commercially and various other dark alluvial clays or mixtures are substituted.

Also Known As: Albany slip clay, Albany slip glaze
Alberta slip is often substituted for Albany slip in many glaze recipes, using a one-for-one ratio.
