Surface Decoration Using Depth

From , former About.com Guide

Impressing clay and incising it have been used as decorative techniques practically from the time the first clay objects were made. Get in on the action and explore those decorative surface techniques.

If you are already familiar with them, push the envelope past what you've been doing. Think about how the surface relates to the form itself. How will the changes in surface interact with other techniques, such as glazing or the use of oxide washes or stains?
